RSE workers from the Pacific Islands are vital to the success of our Viticulture & Horticulture industries. We rely on them to do the extremely hard physical labour we simply cannot find local employees to do. Without them, vines would remain unpruned, fruit unpicked and result in serious economic damage to our communities.
While working in NZ, they face the hardship of being away from their young families for months at a time, often without the option to connect virtually due to the lack of technology back home. When they return home, they go back to under-developed communities, without the facilities and technology we would consider essentials for a basic standard of living.
The Village to Village Charitable Trust wants to make the relationship between our communities more than transactional. In return for the contribution RSE workers make to our communities, we want to help them help their communities at home.
